Prof. dr. Manuel Bernal Sprekelsen

Prof. Dr.med. Manuel Bernal-Sprekelsen is currently Head of the ORL-HNS Dept. at the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona (since 1998) and Tenure Professor for ORL at the University Medical School of Barcelona (since 2007). He trained in Germany at the University Johannes-Gutenberg (1984-1989), and became consultant and senior consultant at the Elisabeth Hospital, Ruhr-University Bochum (1989-1992) before taking over the Head of the Dept. at the Univ. Hospital Son Dureta in Palma de Mallorca. In 1996 he was the president of the Spanish National ENT Congress, which took place in Mallorca. In 1997 he became Privat-Dozent for ORL at the Ruhr-University.

He has published 142 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 13 books and 123 book chapters. He is honorary member of various international scientific societies. As first or co-authors he won over 25 awards. He was founding member and first treasurer of the European Academy of ORL-HNS and is its current president. In 2011 he became Congress President of the 1st Congress of the Confederation of the European ORL-HNS (EUFOS + European Academy) in Barcelona (with over 3500 participants). Currently, he is president-elect of the Confederation (2013-2015) and its future president (2015-2017).
